Stehekin
Another 27 miles (3,000 feet up, 5,000 down) brought me to Stehekin today, an isolated town in northern Washington. The roads here don’t connect anywhere else, so it’s necessary to take an expensive ferry to reach Stehekin – except, of course, if you walk here!
My dad took the ferry, loved it, and met me at the Stehekin Lodge where we are staying tonight. Looks like a change in weather ahead, but I only have four days left – can I reach Canada before the rain comes? I’ll be at the border on Sunday… It’s weird to be so close to the finish line.
You go!!! It feels like fall is upon us, and at least some rain in the next couple days. Congratulations on the remarkable weather you’ve enjoyed over the last couple weeks. And congratulations on the remarkable accomplishment, amazing.
The ferry ride to Stehekin is spectacular. I always wanted to hike from Holden Village to Stehekin, but the ferry is certainly a great alternative. Congratulations! You are almost there.
Today I celebrated my 56th birthday and your continuing journey. It is hard to believe that you are almost done! The time has simply flown by (for your readers, anyway! :-) ) Wishing you all the best!
After being gone for the past week, it is amazing to read your blog!…what an accomplishment, Noah!!…you will carry this adventure with you for the rest of your life! Congrats! jeanbb
Noah- pretty dang cool, you are so close. So how does a through hiker avoid gaining 20 lbs. the first few weeks after finishing the mega-hike? What does one do to maintain sanity when you’re not hiking 10 hrs. a day??
Happy trails for sure!
Tim
I am SO impressed. You have kept us up to date with your wonderful commentary and gorgeous pix the entire time. I can’t believe you sent up 3000 feet and down 5000 feet in one day. SHEESH!
At this point Noah, you’d probably not even notice the rain?! This must be feeling like you are in a dream….so close, yet so far away.
WAY COOL!!
Hope that there’s a book out there. Congrats!
Noah,
What a truly amazing young fellow you are. I have been following your adventures for the last couple of years, ever since discovering an article you wrote for Wild Bird, I think it was. I had just returned from a trip to the southwest and the article was on birding in Las Vegas, of all places. I just want to say that I’m so impressed not only by your pluck and determination throughout this entire hike but also your wonderful parents, who have supported you physically, emotionally, and spiritually, it would appear, from start to (almost) finish!
Are we there yet?
I hope he didn’t wake early and let the excitment of it all blurr his judement and head south for the winter!
It’s now late Sun night. Are you sleeping in Canada? Congratulations on an amazing accomplishment!
