Paradise

After some quick calculations this morning, I realized it would be possible to make it to a famed burger joint, the Paradise Cafe, just in time for dinner. It took a 25-mile day through the desert, including 2 miles off-trail, but I just arrived along with another hiker, Adam, who has been keeping pace the last couple days. A root beer float tastes awesome after 25 miles in the sun, and the burger is ordered!

It looks like the next couple days will be spent at higher elevation, so maybe I’ll get a change of scenery. And maybe I’ll at last get out of the wind; it was really whipping all day today. Anyway, 150 miles down!

If it makes you feel any better, the weather at Malheur when we get there tomorrow is supposed to be 48 and rain, winds west at 20. Overnight light snow. And the whole CPR is closed by flooding.

Have a great day tomorrow. Vjera and I will follow your posts from the Malheur Field Station’s wifi tower for the next week.

Noah, I’d heard you were doing the hike, but didn’t realize you were blogging about it the whole way!

Good luck with the journey, and let me know when you make it back. Beers are long overdue :)

Simply amazing journey you’re undertaking Noah. And if anyone can do it you’re that man. Thanks for taking time to blog your each days adventure. There’s a lot of us out here cheering you on, day to day! Aldo Leopold once wrote: “I am glad I shall never be young without wild country to be young in. Of what avail are forty freedoms without a blank spot on the map?” May you have many blank spots ahead………..

Somebody is missing a good entrepreneural (or however you spell that) opportunity to set up burger and taco stands along the trail. Take notes, Noah –
